It has been an honor to serve you through the Holistic Animal group and to get to know you. You are part of a loving and beautiful community of like minds where together we are changing the world. All of our interactions have enriched my life and I wish to offer you sincere wishes for much goodness to come in the New year.  Thanks SO MUCH for joining me on this life adventure!

Following meetings will be the second Sunday of every month (subject to change). Meeting time will be according to day-light.

Meeting day/time has been changed for those who find it challenging travelling at night, and during the winter.

The rabies vaccine - one of the top vaccines hazardous

to your animals' health and well-being

You may want to attend this presentation/meeting if you have the following questions:

  1. Is my animal vaccinated against rabies already?
  2. If so, have I fulfilled the intent of the law to protect humans from my pet giving them rabies?
  3. If immunology shows a long lasting immunity to this viral vaccine, is it in my best interest or my pet’s best interest to continue following this law?
  4. Does anyone go door to door to check on my animals’ rabies vaccine status?
  5. If I choose not to vaccinate repeatedly any longer for rabies, am I putting my animal at risk if he bites someone?
  6. What is titer testing? Is it accurate?
  7. My animal has had only one rabies vaccine (or none) in his/her life - why is he/she displaying symptoms of rabies?

February 06 Meeting Topic of Discussion: THE RABIES MIASM

Rabies is a  highly fatal disease that affects species of warm blooded animals, including humans. This is an infectious disease transmitted by the bite of infected animals including dogs, cats, wolves, foxes and bats. Rabies is the viral disease of the central nervous system causing encephalopathy and ultimately death. The rabies virus can have an incubation period from 5 days to 1 year (3-7 weeks).

The vast majority of rabies cases reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) each year occur in wild animals like raccoons, skunks, bats, and foxes............

 ANNOUNCEMENT:

 Homeopathy Webinars:

For the Lay Homeopath or the Professional Prescriber, these two webinars present the theory and philosophy  necessary for a fundamental understanding and application of veterinary homeopathy.

The Vital Force emphasizes the application of homeopathy in companion animals.

The Basics in Equine Homeopathy, as the name implies, focuses on the  applications of homeopathy in our horse companions.

Both webinars will begin with theory and philosophy and progress through the mechanics and application of homeopathy in the given species.  At the end of each webinar will be case studies for the students and an acute/emergency veterinary materia medica.

For more details, times and costs, visit the Webinar page of my website homeopathyfortheanimals.com    link

From Jean Hofve DVM

November was Diabetes month for humans, but it’s important to be aware of diabetes in pets as well. In dogs, diabetes is primarily a genetic issue; but in cats, it’s almost always diet-related. High-carbohydrate dry food causes dehydration, obesity, and diabetes in cats.

Salmonella outbreaks from dry pet food have been occurring since the summer. The Procter & Gamble Company (makers of Iams and Eukanuba), among others, voluntarily recalled several lots of dry cat food. Merrick Pet Care recalled a number of dog treats due to Salmonella contamination. Dry pet food has been blamed for at least 79 cases of illness due to Salmonella contamination. Yet veterinarians and the FDA continue to rail against homemade and raw diets–which have a much better safety record!

Suit filed against microchip maker. Microchips and cancer–it sounds like an urban legend. But one consumer has filed a lawsuit claiming that a microchip caused cancer to develop in her cat. It should be noted that any trauma or any injection can cause cancer in cats; though it’s far more often due to certain vaccines (in particular, killed vaccines for rabies, feline leukemia, and FIV). Internet rumors to the contrary, microchips are relatively safe. There have been many more lost pets returned to their homes thanks to microchips than the few individuals that have had a negative reaction. In fact, my own cat was one of them–he developed a horrendous abscess from a microchip. Nevertheless, I still microchip all of my pets, and I recommend that you do the same!

Dr Christina Chambreau (HealThy Animal Update)

Metacam is a pain reliever used by many conventional veterinarians before and after every surgery. It can cause renal failure in cats, so the manufacturer has all sorts of capital letters saying to give only one injection, and listing contraindications.  Please spread the word to your friends who are not yet working with holistic practitioners to ask about pain protocols in the clinics they visit. Arnica, rescue remedy, Hypericum, Reiki, and many other holistic modalities.  If your animals need surgery, even routine neutering, ask about the policy of the surgeon and consult with me or your holistic practitioner.  Remember that you need to be ever watchful about what your veterinarian does. Be with your animal in the clinic. If your clinic takes your animals into the back for any procedure, request they let you be present.

Cancer screening and testing
While I do not completely understand the uses of the following test, I want to let you know it is available. There are markers in the blood to test for cancer. A new one, RECAF, is produced in excess when any type of malignancy is present. Oncopet (www.OncopetDiagnostics.com ) offers testing to see if the tumor now seen is malignant or to screen for the possibility of cancer even before lumps have been seen. Before you all run out to see if your dogs and cats have cancer, consult with your holistic practitioner, read this company’s website and focus more an building health through few vaccines, best diet (fresh), energy treatments and more.
